Bean Animal and Vertex

I was looking at the Vertex "Shadow" which comes with U-flow fittings for the outside box. It's a three hole design, and appears to be a modified Bean Animal (I don't see an airline). Using 180 degree fittings without the straight pipe and the caps.

Anyway, I purchased the 20" overflow from Vertex which does not come with those proprietary fittings, so I'm going to use the measurements as a guide and make them to fit the size of the 20" overflow's box.

What I'm trying to figure out is, does that work as a Bean animal style overflow, or are the air hole/line and caps mandatory components?

Admin please delete this thread. I posted my question to the Bean Animal thread where it rightly belongs.
