Regal angel in reef. Thoughts?

Wife and I have been dying to have one of these and have read mixed reviews.

We have a leather. Some zoas and acans in the tank however plan to overhaul it with some Sps

Just want opinions. We haven't purchase anything so don't assume so and make nasty comments. Thanks in advance.

Should be good with your leather and SPS. My angel ate my zoas, but left acans alone. If you want the fish, get it. Anyone would choose a regal over some random zoas...

It could be hit or miss. What other fish are in the tank? It's usually recommend that a Regal should be the first fish in the tank due to them getting stressed out easily and stop eating.

Two clowns. Starry blenny. Coral beauty. Yellow coris wrasse. Blue streak wrasse. Three small damsels.

We really would love to add it to our 155 gal

I don't see a problem adding it to a already stocked tank, unless you have some very aggressive tank mates...but it should be already eating and healthy in QT, then added to DT with an acclimation box

Had one in my 120G mixed reef, it was a model citizen. I recommend getting a juvenile if possible, it was quick to feed and adapted to the aquarium fairly easily.

I've grazed over them but haven't in detail. Any recommendations or links would be appreciated.

My regal is a model citizen with sps and acans, but will make quick work of zoas. Never had leathers, so don't know. Mine was pretty easy to get to eat , but from what I have read, they can be finicky eaters especially when first introduced. Mine will eat anything I put in the tank, and will eat frozen out of my hand. I have 5 tangs, and 2 larger angels and it fits right in.

Everything I've read says hit or miss, but also depends on the coral. I'd love a small angel in my reef, but I love my zoas too much to risk it. Good luck!

I just spent my entire day pulling all the rock and coral out of my 300g tank so I could catch an angel that decided to start nipping at my corals. He went a year without touching anything, and all of a sudden started nipping everything last week.

I will never trust another angel again with coral. I burned my entire day to catch him and put the rock/coral back in the tank. And I still have a couple more hours of work to rearrange it back the way I want it (saving that for another day).

Fish only? Go for it. Coral? Heck no. Just my opinion.

And the angel breed was? I sold a purple tang once and he ate $200 worth of coral before they could catch him out of the tank, nothing is 100%

So I've had my juvenile Regal for about 3 months (which is a rather short time) in my mixed reef. So he is doing great, eats everything. The only coral he has nipped at is my green brain. He hasn't touched, my Zoas, candy cane, frogspawn or SPS. He is a juvenile regal from the Maldives. I would definitely suggest getting a juvenile as I think it make it less likely to target LPS corals. That being said they could always develop "special" tastes. truly is a 50/50.

Took about 6 months before my Regal tasted zoas and then couldn't stop eating them. He loved the small clams from the local super market.

Any update on your regal... considering one myself but I have zoas, torches, frogspawn & candy canes (along with SPS).

I had a regal in a mixed reef of softies and euphylliads; he did eat zoas, but everything else was fine for several years. Had to sell him when I moved.

My current regal is indian ocean, so orange belly. He is now in a reef with only softies. He takes large bites out of my green polyp leather (sarcaphyton) but leaves the yellow alone. He does not go near organ pipe or any gorgonians. Go figure!
