Nice setup. Must have taken you a while to do the plumbing. Clean work.

Here is a close up of my two float switches that will activate my ATO. The water level is fully adjustable with a set screw behind the acrylic rod.

So I started filling the tank Saturday morning with RO DI, since we were in and out most of the weekend it took awhile and it finished up last night. I put two bags of IO in last night good for 100 gallons and got my heater going. I will add more salt tonight to get to 1.024 or so.

The Herbie drain works well. Before I adjusted the gate valve the system sounded like a huge storm drain and my wife asked if that's how it's always going to be, I smirked and said yes.

very setup you have going!

I'm going to setup LED strip in sump for light myself.

Classic...
Did you get a pic of her face after that?

I can't remember why but "they" say you shouldn't mix salt in tank.

I think because it may leave a residue on the surfaces.

Possibly if you're using a salt that precipitates at higher temperatures or prolonged mixing like RCSP does sometimes or if you have anything living in the tank its not a good idea. I mixed 60 gallons or so when I setup my tank and let it run for a few days without any issues.

Got the water and temp just right. Herbie overflow is set and dead quiet. Time to throw in that dead shrimp and start this cycle. Going to hate the next several weeks but at least I can test my Apex programming.

Just a few more pics of the sump before I got it wet.

Skimmer section with filter sock removed. You can see my heater. I will probably add another smaller heater for backup:

DC Pump controllers, left is return, right is skimmer:

Return section with double float switches for ATO:

Refugium section with Loc-Line, hope to use this for extra live rock and pod colonies:

If you guys ever need really nice acrylic probe and tube holders, make sure to check out Dan's work. He has great products and great customer service. PM me for his contact info.

I bought a few probe/tube holders from him last year and now that I finally started my build, I realized there was not enough clearance behind my sump to properly tighten the set screws.

I asked him if he can custom make them for me with the set screws on the inside, and he replaced my original holders for free.

Here are the new holders he sent me:

I used Dan for my ATO, Dosing, and probe holders. Great products.

I'm a few weeks ahead of you in our builds. I had my marco rock curing in 55g bin w/ heater, pump, airstone, dr. tim's bacteria for 5 weeks, then moved everything in tank 2 weeks ago w/ live sand.

Good idea cycling everything early. I should have done that as well!

So far it's inexpensive. It all depends on this experimental pump I got. Should be delivered tomorrow.

Yes a dual head peristaltic pump, aiming for 1.8 gallons a day, which would equal out to 10% (12.5g) of my volume a week.
