Nice. I am going to be testing one for a super-sized built-in wave box. If it works out I will have 5 of them in waveboxes on my next tank.

reefer334 "Are you doing a garden reef or sps dominant. What types of fish are you planning on?"

Im going to create a peaceful garden reef. I haven't really made a fish list yet but I have some ideas. I've been concentrating on the build and while it cycles I'm going to start on the stock. I will probably ask you guys for suggestions when time comes [/B]

Arnar,

I would love to give you some input on fish.

You know Clarion angels are available now hear in the states ,have you thought about one of those or a few for that tank?

Also I think a Crosshatch Trigger pair is a must.

Are going have clams as well as other inverts?

Keep up the goodwork!!!!

Chris

neither of those is really "peaceful". we would really need to learn more about Arnar's reef goals and philosophy before we can get into his fish selection.

Something tells me that such a dtail-oriented guy is going to be very particular about the fish he keeps.

no doubt.

As far as a stocking list, there's no way to know. Everyone has a different idea on what the stocking level should be, and it all depends on how he feels about that.

I have about 35 fish in my tank, but many reef keppers would stock at double or triple that. I just want to keep my bio-load down to make my life a little easier.

Tonight I finished cleaning the rest of the 500Kg sand we are using for the tank so that chapter is finally done and all the sand is in the tank. Would like to thank Pete for cleaning most of it though but that guy is one crazy workhorse.

Next tuesday I will hopefully get my mounting brackets for the T5 lights so I can finish that. Once the T5 are in I can finally move on to the baserock. Doing the rockscape is one of the things I have been looking forward to the most and I hope I can build something with lots of cool natural features.

I would also like to start looking at making some fish stocking plans. In the small temporary tank we have few fish that I got as a gift from my friend who was taking down his tank : 2xclowns, Betta, Sailfin Blenny & 2x tangs. Guess I'll have to add one or two more fish

Anyone have experience with a Betta ? Will it eat all crustacians ? I also have a longspince urchin in the sump which I am not going to put in the big tank since I will actually be walking in it.

Bettas are way cool and can live peacefully with snails, crabs, and larger shrimp. I have a buddy with one and it does fine with snails, cleaner shrimp, sally lightfoot, and bristle stars.

However, this fish tends to hide quite a bit so in your tnk you may not see it more often than just at feeding time. They are interesting fish though, especially when they invert in a hole and wave their big "eye".

I hope the clowns are NOT maroons. If they are, I would not put them in the tank.

I would agree with jnarowe. My maroon clown killed a couple of fish that I tried to add to the tank. She was sold to the LFS.

Mine is cool with most fish except for a couple of wrasses, but overall the issue in my system is with corals. The female hates most corals and specifically montipora. She attacks me constantly and destroys corals that I put in "her" area, which is about 3+ square feet of the tank. She tosses rocks around and I have to wear reef gloves to do anything on her side of the tank. I would love to strangle her and eat her in front of the other fish. grrrrrr.

I've got a pair of Maroon Clowns and the female is constantly doing some aquascaping. She moves massive amounts of sand and clears a big area all the way to the bottom if allowed. She moves everything that can be moved and breaks off corals in attempt to move them. I still love the pair, they are just doing their natural cleaning around home routine.

I arranged rocks so sand is difficult to move and make sure not to have anything loose around them.

Since I'm Icelandic too and done the work on the sand a couple of times I've got an advice for you.

It looks like you are cleaning the sand in an inefficient way and there is bound to be loads of sediments when the water gets in and the tank cloudy for a few days. Still it will linger for a long time, set in the sand and get loose again when it's moved around or cloudy the tank when blown off rocks.

I predict a few hundred litres of water will be spent by the overflowing skimmer for the first days, but it will only be enaugh to get some of it out.

This sand has been dry-shifted to get the most coarse parts out of it. There is a lot of dust in this sand and it needs to be departed from it before it gets mixed with the saltwater.

There has to be a clever way to do this with efficiency for such a large amount, but I used a mesh filter for my 100kg, huge amounts of water and it took half a day to shift all of it out. It's boring, but it has to be done properly.

The sand we are using is not from the 'usual' place where they dry the sand. I got it moist and when we put 40kg's in the 120ltr barrel its really easy to clean it with the pipe attachment which we use to stab trough the sand for a thorough clean. It works very well and each batch is about 30-45 minute work but time flies when you're having fun

It is all in the tank and I think it won't be a problem.

Arnar, is your job installing tanks or is this something that your boss asked you to do for the company? Either way it's really cool.
