You want the angle of the holes facing the direction that the water is flowing. Wether ir be on the intake or output

So if water is moving from left top right...you want your holes to be drilled like this

__________
. \

---------->

__________/

Just built my first one out of some scrap clear pvc I had laying around, we don't have any acrylic shops within 100+ miles. I used 1" pvc, then dremeled out the T fitting and slid it into it until the smallest diameter is within the T, then attached a 1" piece of pvc to the T for the intake. There was some cracking when I pushed the venturi into the outer tube, but its going very strong right now. 0-200 RMC gets here on friday, so we'll see actual numbers then.

Looking forward to seeing your numbers and pics dew2loud1. I'm getting ready to build a skimmer based off of a Laguna pump as well.

Sorry if this has been asked already. But how can I incorporate this into a DIY skimmer? I need to either buy or build a skimmer for my 55g tank and would LOVE some suggestions.

Edit: Hey Young Frankenstein, noticed you're from Miami too. Where about?
Edit2: The DIY Skimmer has to be HOB as well. No room for a sump.

Yeah but I would have to install a dedicated circuit breaker to run the pump!

That is waaay bigger than mine. I'm basing mine on a PJ5000.

200 scfh! You had better start cracking - that is a LOFTY goal!

Woah! Is this an academic pursuit? Are you turning your 26 gallon *into* a skimmer!?

It's DEFINITELY not for the 26g The MSX 200 is already overkill

It's more one of those "let's see if I can do it" deals

Still waiting for somebody to mod me up one for my 6' tall skimmer. I just don't have the damn time. I hate that ocean runner...

Let me get this one figured out (read: up to 300scfh ) and I'll make one for you! I wouldn't think you'd need more than a 2000 motorblock force fed w/ an Alita 20. What diameter and water column height do you have?

The skimmer is 6" PVC

I have an Alita AL-15 on it right now (remember I an authorized VAR), but have to vent most of the air, as the OR-2500 chokes at anything over about 25SCFH. It has the stock NW in because I don't have the patience to maintain a meshwheel AND it has enough trouble starting as it is anyway. ORs suck.

Bean,
I use a meshed OR 6500 and you would be surprised what it can do, its running an ASM G6 right now not 6' tall but a good 4', the laguna is most likely your best bet though.

Bean, are you wanting to force feed that skimmer or naturally aspirate it? I'm assuming force fed at that height, although, I could get you a 4200 that would do 200scfh on the skimmer and give you a 4'tall bubble column...there would only be about a foot of head for the pump to work against

I dont mind force feeding it. I have the pump already. If the venturi would pull 60 - 80 and do so in a consitent manner with this height skimmer... well then i would consider that as well. I just know the skimmer will take a LOT more air but the OR 3700 can't handle over 25 SCFH or so. I would like to get as much air as possibe without a significant increase in water flow. The skimmer is only 6" in diameter and I fear much more flow will cause a significant amount of turbulance.
