True that...lol. If I get this I will most likely not get that Reeflo Orca skimmer. Very tempting, If only I saved more I would be going for it.

What pump does this require???
I'm giving this one some serious thought!!!! Since I broke your checking account, I guess it'd only be fair for you to break mine, right??? |

i would probably run an iwaki 70rlt to get good performance out of it.
barr's skim like there is no tomorrow. i would get it but i already have two becketts of similar size and a third one may seem a 'little' redundant!

Gabe, it appears that not to many people are familiar with that skimmer here. If so it would be sold already! you might want to post it in the for sale forum and ship it out. Some one there will definitly buy it.

Gabe do you think it would be possible to run the skimmer with a Ocean runner 3500? It pushes about 900gph. If I get this skimmer it would save me about a grand from buying that Reeflo dart, and would run with less power if it runs with the Ocean runner.

Thanks for the input. I'm on the wait list now for the skimmer. For so now I'll just look up pumps that will work correctly on the skimmer.

so, it sounds like a pretty hefty pump is needed for this skimmer... what pump would be optimum???

i would use an iwaki 55rlt (or equiv) for that skimmer.
that pump should get you amazing results on that killer skimmer! i am going to guess that the iwaki 55 rlt should draw only 150 watts or so under the beckett load.

in terms of skimming power...it's an apple to oranges comparison to the g2. the barr is a very powerful skimmer with the right pump...but it uses a little more electricity...little to me, anyway. i'm going to go off in a tangent... but... why in recent history have so many of us become OBSESSED with low wattage skimmers? the lower the more we seem to plump our chest about? heck! my lighting ALWAYS uses wayyyyy more electricity than my skimmer ever did (even when it was running 24/7). personally, i would rather spend the extra 100 watts or so to effectively skim my tank than to try and nickel and dime every watt. yes, electricity is expensive here...really expensive...but does it make sense to drop $3000 on a deltec that uses 156 watts when you can get an excellent beckett skimmer (for the same tank size) for about $1000 or so and uses 250 watts? how long is it going to take to make up the initial extra $2000 in saved electricity? i use the word initial because remember from accounting...if you took that $2000 and put it in just a compound interest savings account...in x years, it would have grown expontentially.

Hey Bergzy, come over and plan my tank's portfolio =)
I agree, the cost made up in time spent trying to fix problems caused by an underpowered skimmer and/or livestock losses makes the extra wattage a good investment. I didn't think my 120 could look better until I put an ev400 on it, now it is crystal clear =)
