What/how often do you feed, what size is your tank, and what are some of the tank mates. I believe that stress, age, and improper nutrition all can cause HLLE (although this has never been proven). I have on two occasions reversed it with good feeding, and the proper foods/vitamins and supplements, because those were the problems...

I feed twice daily- mysis, nori clip all day for grazing, brine shrimp, omega brine, cylops, glassworms- all frozen.
Tank mates are a pesky darjini, koles, small blond naso, bangai, pajamas, blu and green chromis,.....the purple is constantly trying to gaff all of the above...

does the desj bother the purple, it could be due to stress, you may want to feed smaller portions 3-4 times per day and see if that helps. Also selcon and garlic may be a good thing to try. Try to incorporate some formula 2 flake in there, it may contain something which you don't feed which could help your tang.

Try AminOmega from brightwell aquatics. I have a hippo tang that was given to me with a bad case of hlle. It's face was totally discolored. It is now getting it's blue color back. It take a while to come back but it definitivly is. Hope this helps.
