Sicce PSK-600 issues

So I'll start off by saying I've never had a pump die on me yet and I want to make sure I do everything I can before I buy a new one.

I have a Diablo XS160 with a Sicce PSK600 that I bought maybe 3-4 years ago. Last week the pump would shut off and turn on intermittently, and now nothing. I took the pump apart and looked at the impeller, besides some algae it looked fine. I cleaned it off and it did the same thing. I took it apart again today (a week later. I know I should have looked into it more then. I'm just getting back into my tank) and I am able to spin the impeller about half way until the magnet takes over and grabs it. I tried to plug it in without the impeller to see if I hear of see anything move; nothing. Does this sound like a dead pump to anyone else, or is there something else I can check on it before it's trashed? If it is trash anyone have some good ideas for a replacement? Thanks

I had a Sicce SE-200 on an older skimmer act very similar to yours before I replaced it. It didn't really shut off intermittently, but if I turned the skimmer off, after powering it back on, the pump would kick on like 10-15 minutes later. Impeller was fine too. If it were me, I'd just replace it with another PSK-600. They're good pumps.

I didn't do much maintenance on it before it died. But the load on my tank for the past 6 months has just been 6 fish and some crabs on my 120 gallon. Its disappointing it died already when I have a reactor pump and return pump I bought used off a friend are still working. This one was brand new when I got the skimmer 3-4 years ago.

That is what you can expect from skimmer pumps about 4 years or so. If they make it past that, it is a bonus. Good to see that it is still around, as much as our hobby changes.

Those pumps are great. They cost about $100 new.

I was looking at replacing the pump and I see the sicce 1000 is about $10 more. Should I stick with the 600 or just spend the extra $10 to upgrade to the 1000 and would their be any benefit?

Also open into other suggestions for pumps that will work with my Reef Octopus Diablo XS-160. I just want to replace the pump and get one ordered sooner rather than later. That's the main reason for sticking with Sicce at this point as I know it will fit and be compatible.

The 600 model is closer to performance to the old pump that you have currently. If you felt like you wanted a little more in performance get the 1000 pump.

The only thing I was concerned with is the compatibility of them. I assumed one just has a bigger motor than the other and all the outlets are the same. The only other thing I was concerned with is the longevity of the Sicce as this one only lasted 3 1/2 years. Is the normal for a skimmer pump?

The Sicce 600 usually lasted about 3 years mine only about 2 years. I bought a Tunze 9420 pump to replace mine much better pump and impellers are cheaper and better. You r skimmer the pump is below the body of the skimmer but not enclosed by it Correct?

Correct it is just under the skimmer. The outlet just slides into the bottom of the skimmer
