Quarantine Tank (QT) Cost Comparison

I'm about to setup two quarantine tanks and I'm trying to maximize the benefits and minimize the cost.
I've decided to go with the Sponge Filter setup because I think it's cheaper and more effective.

Sponge Filter setup:Total Cost = $39.02
Notes:
  • I have an extra 3 airstones left
  • I have an extra sponge left
  • I have an extra tubing left

AquaClear 30 setup
Total Cost = $30.95 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2 Sponge Filters setup

I just need to get an extra air pump for $9.37
Total cost for 2 Sponge Filters = $48.39
Notes:
  • I have an extra 2 airstones left
  • I have an extra tubing left

2 AquaClear 30 setup
Total cost = $62

Seeding questions.
  1. Am I correct that the Sponge filter has more surface area to seed on than the Biomaxx for the AquaClear 30? The Sponge filter is rated for 75G.
  2. If seeding with the AquaClear 30, do you just need the Biomaxx?

With the Sponge Filter setup, I save about $62-48.39 = $13.61. I can easily throw the Sponge and not feel bad about throwing out the AquaClear HOB box.

I didn't factor in the common variables like tank, heater, medicine, pvc pipes, etc because that shouldn't affect the cost comparison between the two setups.

Pros and Cons?

I use the aqua clear because I can also run carbon and a ammonia absorber cause I do not cycle my QT......if my QT becomes a Hospital tank, again once I finish meds I can use the carbon to clean up the meds.......

Just a personal thing I guess. The aquaclear I have is more than 20 years old, man these things last forever...

What ammonia absorber do you have? Or use rather?

After adding copper in QT and if I want to take out the medicine, can't I just drop in a carbon filter later or use Poly filter to cleanuo the copper with the Sponge Filter setup?

Just curious. That’s all. Everything across the board for a regular tank is zero.
