will you use any styro foam under the tank for compression and leveling? I used a 1" thick piece under my 125 and think it really made a difference. I have some frags available too when you are ready!

my tank has the trim as well, but it is level with the bottom...it is an older tank that I bought second hand, so maybe with your new tank it is different

Looking good! As far as I know, the plastic trim is just cosmetic. I would put some styro down. I have always used 3/4", but I think that is over doing it because it doesnt sink at all into the foam. Next tank Ill be using 1/2" (which will be either a 125 or a 120 btw). Definately decide before you finish your stand though, so you can account for that when you put the exterior wood on.

I think i will use the foam, proabably just 1/2", just in case there are any uneven spots in the stand.

Well folks after a long hiatus i'm back and working on the tank again. I'm finishing the stand this weekend. Here is the frame of the stand after a couple of coats of sealer:
Now i noticed something today that kind of scared me. One of the holes in my overflow has a chip beside it inside the tank. Is this a problem? If so what can be done about it? It is approximately 1-2mm deep. Thanks. |

@ 1st glance the chip looks less than 1mm thick could be the angle . Do a test fit with the inside piece of the bulkhead if the gasket goes past the chip I don't forsee any problems.

When I drilled my 120 I had those same chips. I asked locally and the guys here told me just add some silicone glue around the hole before attaching the bulkhead. I did that and it worked out fine.

Well i made some more progress on the stand this weekend. The edges of the doors still need to be veneered and the piece of oak for the door on the canopy needs to be installed.
Here is one of the handles i am using for the doors and canopy along with a sample of stain that i might use. Also the chip will be covered by the gasket, but just barely. I may try to fill it in with epoxy. Any thoughts? Thanks |

I had lots of chips. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...f/100_0902.jpg
I used this- http://www.cheappetstore.com/Fish-Aq...t-3-oz-150727/ Don't know about the epoxy since it's just an adhesive. Aquarium Silicone will seal it like glass. But that's just my opinion. |

Yep. Then screw in the bulkhead and sandwich it.

Nah wet. The bulkhead is gonna help seal the silicone in tight to cover up the chip. Your using the silicone as a gasket really to help seal.

I installed the door on the canopy today, as well as applied the first coat of stain.
Also, I am using hidden hinges for the main doors, so i had to install some pieces of wood behind the doors for them to attach to. |
