Blownsvt - Oh ya, my old place was a little appartment. In the summer when the metal halides came on my place became super hot and humid. In the winter you could see condensaion on the windows when it was really cold.
I have some projects on the go and I thought I might share. Today I build some new stands for my protein skimmer. I have my skimmer in about 8 inches of water, but I read that about 6 1/2 is best for my euro-reef. My plan is to be a lot more aggresive with my skimming and nutrient export. I want to be skimming a bunch more, doing more water changes and pulling cheto out of my sump. If anyone has any other suggestions I would love to hear em.

I think I have been pretty bad at getting water changes done in the past because its a bit of a pain moving water aroud the house. My plans is to put a rubber maid container for fresh salt water right next to my ro/di water tub.
This is a little room behind my tank, and this is where I hide my ro/di water tub. With this setup I can plumb the container so I can just let the salt water flow into my sump! Awesome. I will still have to haul old salt water down the hall, unless I hook it upto a pump or something! interesting! One more thing I have been wating to do is switch out my hard plumbing on my return pump. I think I have like 5 90's on it. This is all the new plumbing I have ready to go. And here is a shot of my tank with the front cover off just for fun.

One other thing I did was I ordered a couple parts that will DOUBLE the amount of flow in my tank. I think it is going to be a total of 6000 gallons per hour plus my return pump.
Anyone have any tips on how to keep sand from blowing around?

It should be pretty intense. I have a feeling that I am going to have to keep them dialed back. Pretty crazy flow for a 90 gallon. Thats like 72 x my tank volume in turn over.

lol I knew a bare bottom fan would chime in lol. That is an option or get a much larger sized sand. If I had to do it over I would have started with a larger grain sand.

Thanks Vital - It dosn't get much easier then building that canopy. The only tools I used was a jig saw to cut the holes for the fans and a couple vices to hold the pieces in place while the wood glue dried. I got the pieces of wood cut at home depot. Its half inch wood so its really light.

Skimmer is working awesome!
My new skimmer stand is in and I am glad I took a few minutes to make it.
After just an hour or two it pulled all this out. It seems to be much easier to dial in now. One thing that has come up though is my water seems to have some debris or detrius floating around. Does anyone have any tips on how to help this. I was thinking of running carbon or putting a filter sock on for a few hours.

Did some tests!
Calcium 440
KH 70 or 1.4 mEq/l Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 pH ? It seems my KH is low. I am planning on dosing limwater soon, but should I be adding baking powder in the mean time.

Disaster strikes! I had all my pumps hooked up to socket which was conrolled by light switch (dumb). I had the switch taped off but some children were at my house and one of them flicked the switch.
Couple days later I found all the fish floating.

Thanks. I am trying to look at the positive side. The tank has been pretty neglected for the last couple years. This will either be a new begining or a good time to get out of the hobby.

I am putting new floors in the basement so the tank has to come down for at least a little while. I don't think I we be able to resist not putting water in the tank and getting it going again.
