75gl lighting recommendation
Hello, I just purchased my son a 75gl tank to start up his first reef tank. I have been out of the hobby for a few years and was wondering what wold be a good choice for his first lighting system for a 75 gallon. He is just starting out in the hobby so I am hoping to get some suggestions for lighting
Thanks in advance Reefrock |

Viparspectra gets a lot of good reviews, so does Reefbreeder's.

Hi Vinny,
Thanks for the quick reply. Question on the Viparspectra...the 300W model is 32" in length and the 75gl is 48" in length. Is it ok to put a 38" wide light on a 48" wide tank? I believe it is but thought I would ask Thanks for your helpl! |

Got a budget? Any special features you want?
You certainly dont need to cover the whole span of the tank... Light will spread and you typically dont put corals all the way up to the side either.

Thanks for all the responses. So it looks like the Viparspectra is the most cost effective for a 75gl with 300W around $200. I assume I only need one of these fixtures. Is that correct? Anything else I need to know? I can upgrade to a higher wattage later if he decides to grow SPS,etc...
Just confirming before ordering ..thanks |

The 300w unit is more than capable of growing anything in a tank that size.

For 48" tank, i would get 2 Viparspectra 165W units over 1 300W unit. Better light spread and bit more light. Price would only be about $20-$30 more, if that.
