Hello,
I am planning a 7 or 8 foot tank and would like to do a combination of stone and wood. Please show off yours!!!

Currently, the ideas are:

- Cabinetry look, such as in your kitchen. (w/ a large tank sitting on the counter)

- Bar type look, where the stand would be used to set your drinks on....this would be near the wet bar (haven't built it yet)

Please throw out any suggestions or comments!

Thanks very much! I was surfing around for stone samples yesterday and it seems that granite would be my only choice since it's best uses are in the kitchen and resistance to scratch and soil. I thought there would be more choices.

That is super! The way you did the trim is exactly what I am looking for......

Also, how did you come to the decision to do steel(?) In your opinion, would wood not be able to hold the weight?

I am currently leaning towards an 8 foot tank x 28 wide x 28 inches tall.....3/4" acrylic.

I am also leaning towards bar style. The granite then would be about 18" out from the tank.

I think you must have a build thread correct? I will look for it.

You could also go with a "quartz-stone" type product, it's a manufactured stone, is harder than granite and less likely to crack (or so says the manufacturer :)) but it also is a lot cheaper, and comes in a wider variety of colors. I used a black version in my kitchen and absolutely love it, not to mention at $50/sq-ft installed vs $75 of granite it was quite a savings.

Granted I didn't put a fish tank on it I was actually doing my kitchen :) but it has all the benefits of stone, but isn't scratch happy like corian.

where are you getting $75/ft for granite? I paid less then $35/ft for mine installed. I paid $550 for the slab and $25/ft for he edge.

Although the panels are not finished, here is the stone bottom. The panels will be cherry frame with some sort of leather on foam insert to give them a 3-D look.

Very nice!
Are the stones used in these pictures stone that you would buy for the outside of your house?

Thanks. My wife and I put it up ourselves. She found the stuff at a carpet/tile store. I don't think it's intended for outside use although it is real slate.

I really like the granite look but so little of it would show in my install we went another way.
