I do not get the logic of the terms used to identify plugs on the eb8 why can't one be named 1 so that I can then tell it what I want. What is it I don't understand? I have read both the manual and comprehensive and still don't get it. I admit I am not a whiz but it seems simple basic stuff is not well explained or I am missing something. I have set up my ph,salinity and temp without too much difficulty but I really don't understand the eb8. I start with configuration, the outlet setup, then I don't get the outlet terms used. Why not just 1-8 with aqua bus address and then outlet number as seems to indicate the manuals? What am I missing?

I just renamed all my outlets. Then when you give it a command, use the exact name. Some of it is really difficult to understand, but I keep reading the manual.
Here are some of my outlets:

Then you just command that outlet to do what you want. I just study the programming.

Hey I feel your pain. There is a reason behind the complexity though- there always is with this controller. For the energy bars the reason the outlets don't have simple single digit names is because people often get more than one energy bar so there had to be a way to identify not only the outlets but also the energy bars.
Plus- when you add modules like the WXM, VDM, etc.-- they add more outlets to your inventory so they need that "module#/outlet#" too. Hope that helps.

I do not have these types of windows on my web controller. This seems logical and I can relate. I also understand the energy bar and outlet numbers, the problem is I do not have access to this information. Where do these windows come from and on what operating system?

The windows in Reefaholic's post are from the Android app on his phone I think. Those windows are different than what you see on a PC or Mac.

OP, what apex do you have?, is it the full apex?, have you tried conecting it to your router, you should access your apex thru your home network, there is a cd that comes with system to access an apex page where you can see all the outlets and makes programming a little bit easier
