I'm looking for inexpensive tablet suggestions to use as a display for my APEX. I'm considering mounting it to the wall next to the tank and leave it plugged in and on all the time.

I'll be setting up a new saltwater tank in addition to the one I have using the APEX. I have a back up APEX controller so I have the option to run the second tank independent of the first. Not that any of that matters but wanted to put it out there as an option.

Nothing against the standard head unit but I would think I could spend the money on a tablet and get more out of it even though I know it would have to be connected through my home network.

Any thoughts and suggestions (good or bad) are appreciated

thanks,

Interesting idea. It depends on how much you want to spend. The entry level androids will do the job, but they don't have the best reviews. You can get a 7" Visual Land tablet from target and it is only $59. Again, not great reviews, but will probably do what you want. The Samsung tablets are probably the best non apple, getting into those is around $170.

thanks for the feedback Hooop. I don't think the tablet would have to be very high end. I'll need to read up on the app to see what the minimum requirements are and go from there. I did find another post where it was mentioned if the network goes down where I loose the IP address I may be hosed.

You can set up a static ip pretty easily and solve that problem.

Without a display, you lose audible alarms. If that's not important, no big deal.
