True that!

I've simplified the scrubber for my ease of use to clean, it would be more efficient to add some shade cloth, infact I have some left overs that I intend to drape over there as throw away sheets.

My opinon, is that sunlight still offers the propper spectrum and as well as having high PAR values = excellent growth for algae....hence the popular myth where people are terrified if sunlight touches their tank (for fear of algae rearing its head). While my ATS design is not the best for efficiency, I will agree with that....I'll still argue its light source though is still the best.

Some experimental frags under LED lighting

I've been debating trying out an LED set-up to see what colors I can get....here are some pics two weeks into using my new LED units strung over a section of my nursery tank, a mix of exisiting frags and some new one's I got from a fellow hobbyist.

Thanks!

Well winter is in its way so it will allow me to go with "un-natutal" lighting for a few months...allows me to catch up with what I've been missing out for the last 8-9 months.

Me personally, well I think this is very refreshing to see such a beautiful reef, that, well, actually resembles what you see, as I did, when snorkelling on reef such as in Egypt, on the Sinai.

Witnessing this hobby delve deeper and deeper into extremities of blue and other exotic tube/light colourations just seems so fake and improper.

I kind of wish the lighting styles would reverse back to give us lots more views of what nature intended...

Thanks all,

@Boboli...please, my intention is not to have you give up the hobby!!

@Jitter...true, though I do long to also witness what other "normal" tanks look like...so as we now in our winter...time for some un-natural lights.

So winter is here...time to hang up my new puppies

Last afternoon of just plain old sunlight, now I can enjoy my tank everyday till late in the evening. The 18K combination will be a color tweak in terms of the spectral range not offered by sunlight. I'm impressed with the light spread, very little wastage of light. Though some corals are shadowed, thats because my 2m x 1m wide tank is almost full (length and breadth) with SPS growth. And no, I'm not allowed to upgrade again to a bigger tank.

All pics that follow are from the 1st night under LED's....these will be my baseline in terms of monitoring SPS color changes.

True, my reaction when when the "lights when on", reaffirmed that sunlight alone on a tank can give you good results. But, that whats I like about this hobby, allows for you to manipulate parameters and make changes to your setup...and then learn as you go along.
