skimmers????

just wondering what skimmer to get? ihave a 125 with a45 gal. sump. currently running a red sea berlin turbo that came with the system[used] ikeep sps, lps, softies and half a dozen fish and will probably add some in the future. the reason for change is that the berlin seems to be inconsistent some weeks i get plenty of skimmate others hardly any and once in a while it will over flow the cup. sometimes its dark and other times its light in color. is this the norm. or is it the skimmer? was told by 2 lfs that it was a quality skimmer but have read different in the forums.just FISHING for ideas and opinions. thanks forany and all help

I have a large ETSS and it is the same way. I have mucho live rock so I think that has something to do with how much is skimmed. It sounds pretty normal to me. When it skims heavy, did you have a death in your tank right before that?

How much space do you have in your sump, and do you have a budget?

the berlin has abase that is about 7" square and the pump is about 5" away and the entire unit stands at about 20" tall. any bigger would be a problem . as it is now i have to tip the skimmer on an angle to remove the filter socks when feeding the tank or changeing out .could go a little taller [23"] so long as removeing the cup didnt require being pulled up very much 24" total

with no budget and such a tight space the tbest would be Tunze 9010 or 9015. id also look at the ATI BM 200 if it fits it even a better choice
