Leonardo's Formosa Forest
I promised some members of RC to start a thread about my tank, and because I want to keep my promise, here it is
![]() General info: The aquarium is a custom build rimless all glass tank, measuring 32” x 32” x 21”. The total system incl. Sump is 100 Gallon in volume. The overflow is centered in the back of the tank. Lighting: I use 2 Aqua-Connect 250 watt HQI bulbs combined with 2 Aqua-Science blue 22000 K T5 and 2 Giesseman aquablue+ T5. The total light is 500 Watt HQI and 96 Watt T5. Watercirculation (flow): The flow is provided by 2 Tunze 6100 pumps, pulsing 30-50% every 15 seconds, creating a random flow throughout the tank. I the back I have placed a Tunze 6025 NanoStream, that I modded. It prevents the accumulation of detrius behind the central rock. The large returnpump also creates a good amount of flow. Other equipment: The skimmer that I use in this tank is a MTT1 Venturi skimmer (ATI-Twister clone, but with venturi) I have DIY a Phosphate reactor that is placed in the sump. I always use a small amount of GFO, to make sure the Phosphates remain unmeasurable. Livestock: 1 Acanthurus Coeruleus 1 Acanthurus Triostegus 1 Zebrasoma Flavescens 1 Salarias Fasciatus 9 Apogon Leptacanthus Acropora; Acropora Formosa Acropora Microphthalma Acropora Hoeksemai Acropora Yongei Acropora Nobilis Acropora Elseyi Acropora Millepora Acropora Granulosa Montipora; Montipora Digitata Montipora Hoffmeisteri Montipora Australiensis Montipora Danae Montipora Confusa Other; Favia spec. Fungia spec. Pectinia spec. Softcorals; Zoanthus spec. Pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for watching! Leonardo

Your tank is very unique. Gotta love that light fixture.
How much rock do you have in there? |

Leonardo, nice tank BUT put sand in the display! Sand makes the tank look much more natural.
*ducks away from eggs being tossed by all the barebottom guys* Great pictures! |

wow, honestly that is one of my favorite reef tanks I have ever seen. It has such a clean defined look to it with awsome coloration. I also like the look of the couple of sps in the center that dominate the tank. the contrast of colors between those two corals is very appealing and pleasant to look at. happy reefing!!

i looked at the sump pic n was like whats wrong here??? his sump is cleaner than my display n then saw it was wen you setup lol. i like what you did with that light. now did you grow the corals from frags? or did you get colonies so you didn't have to wait? cause i dont think the tank would look too good if the corals were pretty small fragish in size

I love this tank.
What do you use for calcium/alkalinity supplementation? Do you have any older pictures of the display before everything grew out?

Leonardo has actually been inspiring for his less is more approach with respect to live rock, which provides more open space, thus less settling of detritus. The fact of having a bb tank, has absolutely nothing to do with natural or not, just his approach to providing as near as perfect conditions for those stunning corals. When I look at this tank, only one word comes to mind.....WOW!!!!!!! One day I will get there to Leonardo, thanks for sharing......

HOLY COW, trueblackpercula take a chill pill man. A joke and you get all mad.......hate to be around you at all.
Did I say his tank is bad or anything? I said his tank was great and that his camera skills are great. I put a joke in about the sand and you want me banned. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Now back to the topic, Leonardo, how long have you had the tank set up and are most of the corals grown from frags or did you buy most of them that size?
