sunpod too powerful for my tank?

Hey all,

Still in process of building new system!
I have bought a tall-ish tank and want to make sure I am getting the proper strength lights for my tank which is 30" in front, 18" to the back and 25" tall...

Sunpod HQI 30" 1 X 250 Watt 14K HQI with 6 blue and 6 white lunar lights

Should I be going with the 1x150 or with what I want, the 1x250?
I want to make sure I have excellent light to the bottom, but not bleaching things on the top?

Tank will inhabit LPS (softies), fish and lots of LR, piled high..

Thanks in advance!

Since you want LPS and softies, I would say go with the 150, if you want some sps at the top of the tank I would say move up to the 250. But the 250 will still work for LPS corals, it is just that you will not want to put a lot of them at the top the tank.

Just want to clarify, this tank is 25 inches tall... is it better to get the stronger one now, just incase I get a few frags? I do not want to buy twice, but do not want overkill at fist either!

Thx for the quick replies!

Yes you said the tank was 30x18x 25. But you also said you wanted the rock to come close to the top of the tank and did not want to bleach corals at the top.

So what is more important to you excellent light at the bottom, or not to much light at the top?

yup. And only you can decide that.

If you want all of the above. Mount a 400 watt halide at the ceiling level and you will be good to go.
