Details for the August Meeting!

Meeting for August will be on Sunday, August 28th at 6:00pm. It will be at my house:

OneReef
4358 Dalton Downs Dr.
Bartlett, TN 38135

There will be food for dinner, like sandwiches or something similar, along with drinks and snacks.

Topic of discussion will be the frag swap, and as well I will be leading a discussion on "Water Clarity" including the use of carbon, GFO, biopellets, additives, and water changes. Some people might be interested in how these can affect their ability to keep SPS or more challenging corals.

I do not have my tank in yet, as it is still being built. But we have a nice meeting area in our den. I will have another meeting later this year so people can check out my new tank if you would like.

Please RSVP in this thread so I can get an idea of how much food to have on hand. If you want alcohol, it will be BYOB...

We will also be having a nice door prize. Last year at the meeting at my house, I raffled off 2 metal halide electronic ballasts and 2 reflectors if I recall correctly. Might not be as grand this year, but I'll think of something cool.

Hope to see everyone here!

I was encouraged to take part in local clubs by my psychologist. I would've joined sooner but I had this ankle monitor...

I could bring you some of the purple acro's you were interested in. I've got an ATL Grape Ape Millepora, a purple A. humilis, and a no name purplish A. millepora.

What do you have? No pests please...

Man I cant live up to all of that. I have some nice zoas fragged and ready for the swap. 2 polyps of blue hornets, blue tubbs, aeon, hulks, pink and gold?? HHHhhmmm my weak SPS collection, I could get a decent frag of pink birds nest, a thing I call pointy birds nest (its really cool looking got it from Matt) I have a tri colored mili too.... Let me know?

I am fairly new to SPS and most of my stuff is still considered frags. I have plenty of zoas and pallys just let me know what you are looking for.

I've never been real into zoanthids. Could you post some pics of some of your more colorful ones. If I see something that'll complement my SPS, we can trade.

Oh yes....sounds like Freaky (name?) is going to give you and Jay a run for 2011 SPS Snob of the Year Award!

Freaky, I am guessing you have the tanks to back up cutting our Missouri friend off at the knees......can you share pics of your tank? I betting they must be pretty sweet. I want to see this tank with complimentary corals....maybe that will help Jabo pic out some zoa's to match your color palate....looking back at the posts it appears purple may be your theme....Jabo maybe some purple hornets...lol

Nah... not snobby, I just like all of the variety with SPS. I like some other stuff too. One of my favorite corals is my Prism Favia. I don't care for most LPS just because they're so aggressive. When I started reefing my favorite corals were Stylo's, so I jumped right into SPS. I also kept a macroalgae tank with Xenia for a while. I still keep some soft corals too. I posted some pics of my stuff in a thread I started a few days ago. I'm working on taking my sand bed out of my display right now, so I'll post pictures once things settle back down.

My name is Jeff...

*I don't think my setup is spectacular or anything, but I am able to keep SPS successfully using a basic approach.
I have a 75g SPS display and a 29g softy tank, both plumbed to a 38g sump/fuge. My lighting over my SPS is 2 x 175w Iwasaki 15k lamps(known as PAR busters) and VHO Super Actinics. My skimmer is an Aqua-C EV180 and I run Chemi-Pure Elite in a Phosban 550 reactor. My lighting over my 29g is laughably 3 screw in 23w 6500K CFL bulbs in some $5 clamp lamps...

Kerry, do you have any Xenia, kenya trees, shrooms, etc. fragged. If so you could offer Jason one or two to talk him into making the trip down. Anyone coming to the meeting interested in a pair of cleaner skunk shrimp?
