So, I went ahead and got in touch with Kevin...I have wanted this since hof got theirs...keep thinking and figured I might not ever get the chance to get one again...so, i got it...he is a much, much bigger specimen than I wanted...will let you know what happens...he will easily be the biggest in the tank...these pics are from reef builders...this is not my fish, but they are the same age...these pics are from the fall when hof got this first cinereus...

ps..now that I did this I guarantee you that baby cinereus will be showing up for $65....so standby for that, lol....

Mauritius Triggerfish, Rhinecanthus cinereus, is a picasso trigger you’ve probably never heard of..feb 2011

The Mauritius triggerfish, Rhinecanthus cinereus, is one of seven species in the genus of Picasso triggerfish. Known only from the Western Indian Ocean, we’ve actually never seen the Mauritius triggerfish in person and the image above is the only one of a living, colorful specimen that we know of. Like the Tiger-Tail coral beauty angelfish and the Mauritius flasher wrasse, the Mauritius triggerfish was imported by Yadokariya of Japan.

The yellow coloration of the body of Rhinecanthus cinereus is very attractive, and quite a surprise from a genus of triggers whose base coloration is primarily gray with unusual Picasso-inspired colorful markings. The long snout of the Mauritius triggerfish is very reminiscent of the trigger from Tonga, Rhinecanthus lunula, and there is another species of deepwater picasso triggerfish called Rhinecanthus abyssus which looks ony slightly removed from the Mauritius triggerfish, yet it is only known from deepwater of the Ryukyu islands of Japan where it has been caught on hook and line.

Hello,

I am very surprised as regards the price of this fish in US. In Europe Market, you can have for few hundred Euros while in US, i had a look on liveaquaria, they were selling it at around 2500 usd.

How much did you spend for yours?

Heres a couple pics Humaguy. This guy isn't too aggressive but still acts like a trigger. Doesn't bother the damsel in the tank at all, but drop in a feeder...... Bam!

I'm feeding pellets, shrimp, silversides, octopus etc. Pretty much everything.

There's only 2 Mauritius Triggerfish in the whole Europe as far as I know.
And the price had probably even exceeded that of LiveAquaria too.

Agree...these fish are not going for a few hundred anything, anywhere...I wish...but like I said before...now that I have bought one you can probably expect to see babies for $65 in the near future...lol...

Well, the two I saw in Europe were less than 400 €.

A lot of fishes are overpriced on Liveaquaria, i can also see some gemmatum at 3000 USD!! In europe , you ll get them for 750/800 €.

of the 3 or 4 Cinereus that made it to north America..they all sold around $1.5-2k...but as I mentioned, now that I committed to buy one...we will see babies for $65 appearing all over, lol....
