My 20 gallon planted tank

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while but I haven't really posted. I have four saltwater tanks, but this is my favorite right now. It's macro algae dominated but also has some NPS



I've gotten a lot more macros since that was taken a few weeks ago, but it'll have to do for now.

Current livestock is the macros, 4 sun coral colonies, a dendrophyllia, 3 NPS gorgonians, a carnation, a flame scallop (I've had him 11 months now), 2 peppermint shrimp, and a spawning pair of talbot's damsels.

I plan on removing the damsels and getting some pipefish and possibly seahorses. I also plan on getting many more NPS

That is one fine looking tank.

The yellows just look really great against the macro backgrounds. I wish I could get such nice pictures from my tanks.

I just added some gorgonians, sun polyps, and a dendro to mine thinking they would work well together.

Thanks. The pics were taken with my friend's DSLR so that's why they're so clear. I could never take pics like that with the camera I have.

What species of gorgonians do you have? I'm trying to find a couple new ones to look into getting.

I ordered the purple ribbon gorgonian from Gulf Coast Ecosystems. I have no idea of the species. I actually received 2 (ordered 1)of them and I was wondering if they were actually the same species based on their polyp placement. One has polyps only along the edges and the other is on all sides so it looks much fuzzier, but the purple portion looks esentialily the same. Both are a very bright purple.

I've only had them several weeks but both seem to be doing ok. The fuzzier one did have a bout of tissue recession but it was repeatedly being knocked down on the sand and other corals. It seems to be recovering. I am quite happy with the looks and think the purple would pop with your current tank colors.

I too was curious about pic 5. I thought it was likely some sort of carnation coral, but now what I really want to know is what kind of crab is that. I didn't see him at first. Talk about some good camo.

Pic 5 is one of my carnations and his commensal carnation crab. I got him IDed to the genus level but I can't remember what that is anymore. Anyway, he's a filterfeeding crab that lives only in association with carnation corals.

Oh you have photosynthetic gorgs. My lights aren't bright enough for those and I have a personal rule that no photosynthetic coral is allowed in this tank.

I suspected you were only interested in NPS. I thought it would be a much better idea for me to try keeping easier gorgs first. Also there are so many things that are not compatible with my setup I'm unlikely to restrict my selection further.
