That's a great photo. The surface tension around the rocks and lily pads really lights up!

Is this a DSLR? Remember the lens?

This would have been a much better shot if I were about 50' taller, with the sun setting in the background and rays breaking through the clouds.

One of the wildest example of Light behavior (though the Aurora is a very close second and Fata Morgana a not very distant 3rd) - a Brocken Spectre. You can only see the shadow of one arm because the other one is holding the camera so I can take the shot! Nice images you all posted here. I remember the late Galen Rowell saying something to the effect of "if you give me great light I'll give you a great image".

More about this phenom here: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/repor...en-Spectre.htm

All great images guys. Two really stand out to me. First Doug. Absolutely beautiful. The fog beginning to burn off. The dew on the grass. Just amazing. Next Louis. WTH!!! I need to know more about that. Thanks for something to study!!!

I have to pick Doug. I would like to be there. Looks a little chilly. Maybe sipping a cup of coffee and just admiring the fog as it dissipates.

Doug, pick a subject!!!

Crazy right? I'd seen pics of it before from mountaineers. Thought it'd be cool to see but never imaged I would. Then I was hiking a ridge in some serious fog seriously considering turning back. Visibility was poor, I was solo, and it was brown bear territory. Then the higher I got the thinner the fog got. I wondered if I might break through at the top of the ridge and and see this phenomenon. Lucky for me, I didn't get mauled that day and I got to experience and see that! It was wild.

Man, I really like that second one Jesse.

some really good stuff guys!

As for "light".. hmmm ok here's light. I get light-headed just thinking about where this woman is standing!!

I just came back from Yosemite, and everything is DRY. No waterfalls, no rivers.. nothing.

Even Merced river is dry.. but here's some nice "light"

Jesse, that second pic of your second post really fills the bill nicely for this topic, imho. Reflections, shadows, colors. May even be a time when not using a polarizing filter (seems like one was not used in the shot?) was the right call. Seeing more clearly into the water would not have added to the image in this case with this topic, again imho.

xtm, I can totally hear the water not running in your last pic. Nice. Invokes sadness for me though.

Congrats to the Otto on his image and his fortitude. It must be tremendously taxing taking such terrific pictures all the time.

Doug, I've noticed that your shots generally involve subjects not seen in one's house or even out most peoples' windows. That implies to me a fair amount of taking yourself to the subject and hence needing to lug gear. That leads to careful consideration on what is worth having to carry. Would you be open to posting a thread on "what's in my gear bag when I go on location and why"? I'm guessing you're not rolling steamer trunks of lights, batteries and accessories behind you...

Thanks Jesse. I'll try to come up with a new topic tonight.

My gear solution is pretty low-tech but I can post about that too.
