Phosphate in Red Sea Coral Pro?

So I have been tracking phosphate for a while during my endless battle with HA. I finally decided to check my water source. I mixed up some fresh salt water using Red Sea Coral Pro. I put a power head in the bucket and let it run till the water was clear. To my horror it tested at .124 ppm. Next I tested straight out of my rodi. That read 0. Then I put rodi into my brute can and let it sit for 4 days. That tested 0. For a sanity check after I had gotten the high reading on my salt water I tested my dt about a half hour after the water change and the phosphate level in my dt had risen to a level coresponding to the reading I had gotten on my new salt water before adding it to the tank.

I hope my salt is not a problem because I have 10 5 gallon buckets of the stuff. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas?

Wow, 10 5 gallon buckets. I dunno on the PO4, but I have stated countless times the Alk mixes at 12dkh at 1.0265 salinity. That's just too high IMO allowing for no room of error.

Alk that high? I am going to have to test some before I do my next water change. Of course it will be dependant on the alk of my rodi water I mix with. Anyone else notice PO4 high with this salt?

How confident are you in your tests? Which ones are you using and are the liquids or powders fresh? Using clean glassware & all that? If it's an API test I wouldn't make any conclusions yet.

First, I'd test another sample from a fresh bucket or two with a different lot number. Then I'd see if I could get my hands on another test kit and see what I get, perhaps done by someone else in addition to yourself to rule out operator error.

If the results don't change, I'd contact Red Sea. They seem to be pretty good about doing the right thing with things of this nature. They have a forum on RC in case you didn't know. GL M
