hotels in the area of the Frag Swap
Hi everyone,
My family and I will be town that weekend for the frag swap (we're coming from North Alabama). Can anyone point us in the direction of some decent hotels? We're probably coming in on Friday evening, but will head back home after the swap on Saturday. Ideally, we'd like to spend about $70, but no more than $100. It would be a room for my wife, kid, and myself. Also, it doesn't have to be right beside the location of the frag swap. We have stayed in the middle of downtown Nashville the last couple of times that we've been there and we're not opposed to staying on the outside if it's easy to get to (ie. only a turn or two off of I-65). Any help would be appreciated. |

I'm falling down on the job... I was supposed to get a list together some time ago and have not yet. I'll do a search and see what comes up and try to find some sort of map to go along with it.

Awesome. Looks like you live there, so I'll trust your judgement.

Any luck with this? I can go ahead and do an online search, but I'd like to have an opinion of someone from the area that can assure me that I won't be at a crack-head hotel.

olwiggum-Sorry again. I'm hunting down names right now and will drive around and check them out from the outside. I know that Comfort Suites is immediately off the interstate at exit 96, less than a half mile from Moss Trial (where you turn to head towards the community center) and appears to be a decent place.
http://reservations.hotel-guides.us/...11247651O.html There is also a Hampton Inn at exit 97. http://reservations.hotel-guides.us/...10203653O.html These may be the two best, but I'll do a little driving and check out a few others in the area. There are some crack head areas around Goodlettsville (mostly south of Goodlettsville just before getting into Nashville-Dickerson Road about 5 miles south of Goodlettsville is known for less than virtuous people walking the streets). I believe a few more look a little run down (in the G'lettsville area) so I'll check them out before posting later this afternoon. I really meant to have this done some time ago... For those with a little extra money to spend, there is the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. I've never stayed there, but have been through the jungle there and it is pretty cool. I haven;t been to Vegas, so I can;t compare it, but others I work with from the West Coast all compared it ot hotels in Vegas. The majority of the hotel is an atrium with a stream that runs through it and lush plant life everywhere. Just cool to visit, even if you don't stay. There are some semi-fine dining seafood spots in the atrium, too. The Aquarium Restaurant is in the Opry Mills Mall. It has a 200K aquarium as the center piece. I haven't been in there in a while, but it is cool to see a restaurant centered around a massive tank. I'll work up something more on hotels and to hit sites, etc. and post this afternoon.

Cool. Thanks for the help. I'll be on the lookout for your other post. It's always nice to have someone else give an opinon, ya know....
And yes, the Aquarium Restaurant is very, very cool. It was feeding time for the livestock the last time I was there. The food wasn't all that great, but it was definitely worth it to go for the experience. |

Okay. I did a little driving today and looked at the hotels in the immediate area. Exit 97 has a few more than 96. Here are a few that looked decent from the raod and were in decent areas. Both exits have fast food options. Exit 96 has other food options, as well (you can find just about anything within 2 miles of exit 96-the Rivergate Mall is in that area).

Booked a room last night for the Comfort Suites. The link in the first post about the hotels is a rate for folks with AAA. But the room that we booked is 89 bucks, so that ain't bad at all. Thanks for the heads-up and the link, g-flat. I think it's gonna be a nice place.

And you'll be closer than me to the community center.

haha! Very nice to hear.
We're heading in early Friday and will be grabbing lunch at my wife's favorite Sushi restaurant, RuSans. The rest of the day is up in the air. |
