Aqua Illumination in a canopy.
Hi All:
I know there are people curious about installing the Aqua Illumination SOL in a canopy. Just wanted to post some pics of my setup. I just received 2 Sol units and did not want to spend the extra $$ on mounting rail + hanging kit. I did not think I would like the look of the lights hanging. Basically, I found some 3-inch L brackets at Lowes and bolted 2-together to make a "C" bracket. I bought some #10-32 2 inch screws (use screw/bolt that can be tightened with a socket wrench) and mounted the whole unit to the top of the canopy using wood screws. Cost around 5$. The lights have 3-inch clearance as recommended and are about 10" above the water line. I know the guide recommends 12" for two units, but this setup appears to spread very well. Eventually, I will do some PAR tests.
There are some other pics of the tank. It is in very early stages. Current inhabited by a green damsel and a clown fish along with a cleanup crew. The lights are at very low luminosity right now as I am slowly ramping them up so the fish acclimatize. Hope this helps, Chris |
