And I'm not saying leds are the only way to go, just don't try and tell me they don't work long term. I know better! And the proof is in my 180g reef tank.

I think he was trying to get a rise out of us. Everyone now knows they can most definitely grow awesome coral (and SPS) long term and color them up. This can no longer be argued!

I just made the switch in the other direction, having found that with a deep 100 tank, my 250 watt MH that had been great for the 54 g was not enough for a 100g that is 10" different depth of tank. Had coral problems, and finally realized my problem when I found light-sensitive sponge growing on the lower tier of my rocks, in full light. Looked fine to the eye---but wasn't.
So I removed my MH kit and and ballasts, installed 36"-depth-capable LEDs yesterday, reined them back considerably, maybe not enough, and am sort of feeling my way through this.

"success" can be defined in many different ways. some many not consider growth and color of sps' with leds "successful", others may? just like some 20k MH users do not consider sps' color "successful" under 6500k MH. i can not understand why led users refuse to admit sps' look and grow differently under LEDs?

should have bought stock in eco tek, add more, add more, add more. Scratching head trying to figure out how LED are more cost effective @650 a pop. Then you buy your old lights back

I have run radions over my aquarium for over 3 years now. At first I hated them. The presets are garbage "high growth" should be called high browning. Planning a graph takes a lot more knowledge about leds and they way corals respond to them. Generally people think about halides and the 14 20k spectrum they create and run mostly this. I find with the radions you need to reduce the white period and run extra long blue periods with lunar evenings. I ran hqi t5 combo over 50% of my tank compared to a side by side radion g1 and G2 led. The radions blew them away to my suprised over a 1 year trial. I run zeovit my color is great under both lights however every guest I had over always commented that the right side looks much better. Anyways you need to post your tank dimensions. Shadowing is a major issue with the radions. I currently run a g3 pro the left half of my tank about 10" off the water and 2x radion g1 and G2 over the right 8" off the water 40% / 65% intensity. My day starts around 7 am and ends around 1am. You did not post your tank dimensions or your no3 po4 potassium levels. I have helped many radion users adjust their schedule and improve their color. Often intensity is to High and people run to much white. I'm not trying to get into a lighting debate I'm just stating from my own experience I trust my own eyes I have run many tests and have seen the difference which can be brown and extreme color. I know a coral is colorful when you can take it out of the water and say wow that is crazy looking.

Hello MRJ. What is the maximum you would run your whites at and for how long. I have radions as well, know that they are pretty good lights, but am finding dialling them in a challenge. Thanks in advance. - Last edited by rburns24; 09/12/2015 at 09:28 AM. Reason: sp |
