BSK, you DOG!!! All along, you were hanging out in the background, and you throw those pics in our face! LOL, and I thought you were one of my stalkers

Congrats, that makes 3 of us with the SM250 now. We should start up a new thread (since I hijacked the heck out of this one - Sorry everyone!! ) "BK SuperMarine Skimmer Club"

I decided on the BK SM for several reasons:

1) double cone design (this was also why it took me a while to take the jump - new design, not proven yet) - Theoretically, concept is great

2) footprint and collection cup fit my existing sump - would have needed a custom cup on the Deluxe (it would have been a no-charge upgrade though) - but figured if the custom cup cracked, I'd have to wait a while for a new one

3) the PUMP! 2L/H of air! - matches the BK300 and pulls way more air than the ATB medium

4) low wattage pump and silence of RD pumps - high energy costs in California, and my tank's in the family room

5) cheaper than a BK Deluxe

Still, it was a tough decision, as the ATB's skim well, too.

Since you were looking at the same skimmers, what made you go with the SM?

It looks like the skimmer's drain will be submerged? Does the water drain out of the bottom of that white "T"?

Congrats on the new skimmer guys. I will play devil's advocate now as I just ordered the ATB Large. It was nice to finally see the BK Deluxe, BK SM, and ATB Conical skimmers right next to each other at the recent Coral Farmer's Market.

Sweet, Greg. Tough decision. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Both seem like great skimmers. Really comes down to personal preference, I think. YGPM

I still love my AquaC but I am after the energy savings and heat reduction.

Ditto, guess we won't be seeing you around the AquaC club any more hey Greg? Hopefully I'll be joining a new club soon as well. Not exactly sure which yet though. I'm kind of playing "wait and see" right now.

You'll be saving a lot of power over that mag 36 for sure.

Nice. I'm sure the airstar pump will help out with that.

Those large ATB's look AWESOME

What made you choose the Supermarin over the deluxe in the end tbone?
Anybody know what's the optimal sump height for the supermarin 250?
Sump level should be 20-25cm. Mine's at 21cm.

Great choice I think you will be very happy with it.

Mike

Lol tbone. Yeah, I usually don't post too much.

I went with the BK Supermarin for serveral reasons, most the same as yours.
Double Conical design supposed be very efficient
BK Quality and Craftsmanship
Energery efficient for it's skimming capabilities.
2000 L/H!!
A little bit cheaper then Deluxe. I actually got a great deal on the Supermarin.
And most importantly, I was able to get it right away!

I was really debating hard between the Supermarin 250, Deluxe 250 Internal, and the ATB Medium.

I was lucky enough to see both the Supermarin 250 and the ATB Medium side by side this past weekend. The Super pulling twice as much air as the ATB and the needle vs mesh finally convinced me to go with the Supermarin 250.

Greg, congrats on the new ATB Large. I think you'll be the first one with it? When are you expecting it?

When are you expecting yours tbone? Post some pics!
Any new update on yours kenettson1? Where do you have your wedgepipe set at? Where's the bubble breaking at?

When you first turn it on, the bubbles are breaking right about at the neck. I also got great results running it about 3/4" higher for semi-wet skimmate.

Are you measuring that from the bottom of the baseplate or somewhere else?

Yeah, I figured it was a toss-up so I just wanted to try something new. The ATB Medium and the BK Super Marine 250 seemed to be simular size. I figured I could not go wrong with the ATB large since I like having a very large skimmer.

I'll still be in the club since I have the Calcium Reactor. I will also have them build my new sump.

The ATB Medium is 1500 lph of air. The BK SM 250 is only 500 more.

Doesn't the BK SM use a loopwheel? Ot does it use a needlewheel?

I expect to have the skimmer around mid to late March. I'm in no hurry as I plan to also get a new sump and return pump so i can incorporate my new chiller.

Sang, are you going to throw one of these into your sump as well?

Depending on where you mount your pump:
18.9x14.2
19.7x11.8

Lucky you, where did you get to see this display?? I missed out. I should have mine within a couple of weeks. No rush on mine, cuz I need to replumb my sump before I can fire it up.

My bad, I must have had that pump confused with the Airstar 1500 w/ the needlewheel.

The display was at the Coral Farmer's Market down in southern california this past weekend. There was a vendor that had the BK400 Ext, Supermarin 250, ATB Small & Medium all on display.

yes skimmer is doing great. Haven't posted any updates because I've been kinda busy with work and also found out that my wife is pregnant with our first child. I'll try to post some more pics late tonight.
