OK....more info about the set-up. Hmmmmm let see, where did I stop off yesterday night?? Oh yeah.....
Lighting This is where I got burn badly in my last build so this time so I’m now much wiser In this planned scape, there will be certain section of the rocks out of water…YES, you hear it right, out of water and therefore my lighting have to be hung up higher and also to offer an unobstructed 5th view from the top. For those who were following my old tank, you know that I purchased 3 x Lumen Bright Large reflectors (which was supposed to be used for the Peninsular tank) but now 2 of this super reflector will be used for this new tank instead (with one to spare) combined with 6 x Tek2 reflectors with 6 x 39w T5. Lumen Bright reflectors: ![]() ![]() Tek2 reflectors: ![]() Inside those reflector will be 2 x 400w Radium using Galaxy e-ballast to fire them up and my 6 x T5 will be fired up using 2 x IceCap 660 ballast. ![]() ![]() And a picture of my LED moonlight I’m planning to use, purchased locally. LED Moonlight: ![]() ![]() Below is a sketch diagrammed of the planned lighting…. ![]() Should have plenty of lights for this new tank, as I’m planning to keep more table type Acros and clams on the sand bed ![]()

Circulation:
This time I want to ensure all pumps are hidden and due to the shallow reef, I’m thinking of using a combination of close-loop and Stream pumps for flow. For close-loop, I will reuse my existing Sequence Reeflo Pump – Hammerhead (18,000L/h) and I’m planning to purchased the new Tunze Recirculation pump Silence 1073.040 (3,000 l/h) for my return. Originally wanted to go with an Ehiem 1262 for the return but after reading up on the new Tunze Recirculation pump, I think I’ve made the right choice ![]() I might add on an OM 4-way in the future and maybe hook on to some Revolutions for some crazy random flow, should there is not enough flow but I’m hoping my Streams on SeaSwirl can give me that quick random flow required, like in a reef crest. The only pumps that should be visible are my 2 x Gen2 Stream 6105 (3,000L/h to 13,000l/h) which are hook up to 2 x SeaSwirl to create the random flow required for my reef crest. ![]() ![]() Damn…these SeaSwirl units are HUGE! Didn’t go with the Wavesea units as I hear just too many bad things about them and the latest rumors is them being out of business! My return flow will not be connected to the SeaSwirl but instead comes out via my overflow box, as I want to minimize expose pipes in the set-up, being an all round view tank. Should I need additional flow, I still have 3 x Vortech MP40w as well as 2 x Stream 6201 and Tunze Wavebox in my storage to play with. ![]() Back up plans: Any plans must have back up plans, especially when it comes to flow so for me, I’m thinking of pre-cut pre designated openings large enough at the based of the stand so that I have the option to stick my MP40w to the bottom for add flow, should I decided to go this route. Imagine sticking 3 x MP40w on the bottom of the tank pointing up the surface in this shallow reef!! I think will create quite a Tsumani wave on the surface and start to see my fishes surfing hahahaha!! ![]() Not planning on using any wavebox this time, as I’m worried about water spills due to the shallow nature of the tank. Besides, a tank this wide will need at least 2 Wavebox to have any wave effect and most importantly I don’t want the position of the wavebox to limited the aquascaping of the tank. Well….the above should have plenty of flow for this baby to begin with!!

Controller:
I will reused back my ProfiLux Plus II Professional Ex Plus which included the below: ➢ 2 x 6 socket digital power bar ➢ 1 x ph/temp expansion card ➢ 1 x ph port ➢ 1 x ph electrode (for tank) ➢ 1 x ph electrode (for CR) ➢ 1 x temp port ➢ 1 x temp sensor ➢ 1 x ORP port ➢ 1 x ORP electrode ➢ 1 x Conductivity port ➢ 1 x Conductivity electrode (platinum) ➢ 3 x level control port ➢ 1 x level controls fastening kit ➢ 1 x mechanical float switch ➢ 1 x optical float sensor ➢ 1 x level sensor y-splitter ➢ 2 x tunze control cable ➢ 1 x tunze control y-splitter ➢ 1 x RS232 cable ➢ 1 x USB expansion card with USB cable ➢ 1 x calibration liquid set And a GHL Profilux View II for the ‘cool’ factor ![]() Anyone got any good tips on how to clean my probes as they are all covers in coralline algae?? Cooling/ heating: Will reused my previous chiller/heater for this new tank, Hailea HL-2000CHB, which is rated for tanks up to 3000L so no issues on chilling/ heating there. It has a build in Chilling/ heating capacity so all you need to do is simply set your preferred temperature and it does the rest. This chiller/heater is actually a JV company with Aqua Medic but in China they sell it under Hailea/ Aqua Medic brand name and in US or Europe, they sell it under the Aqua Medic brand name. Oh yeah, almost forgot, two of these 4 fan units to cool my lights, which was purchased for my old tank as well but was never hook up…. ![]() ![]() It comes in 2, 4 and 6 fans box sets but I choose 2 x 4 fan box series as this way I can used it to cool both my MH and T5 at the same time! The two end clips can be adjusted at different angle so it’s easy to point it at any direction… Comes with a simple ON/OFF switch with fixed fan speed thou’ but no big deal for me as I planned to have them running on timer and only power up when my first MH is activated and off when my last MH is off.

Aquascaping:
For those who find inspiration from my aquascaping in my previous thread, this one should be more interesting, and CHALLENGING to accomplish…. The idea is inspired by the many Takashi Amano’ style aquascape in FW and I’m trying to achieve something similar but with SW instead. The aquascaping has to be artistically done and yet be as natural as possible with overhangs and plenty of open swimming space for my fishes. The main challenge is trying to keep the right composition with the top landscaping and bottom aquascape and at the same time to achieve all this in a mere 40cm shallow tank will be most tricky…. ![]() I will used the same principal to do my scape using the golden 5:3 rule ![]() This should be the most interesting part of the build, I think (hopefully I can pull it off correctly)

![]() ![]() This tank will be a lot easier to maintain - that's one of the beauty of a shallow tank. Not to mention the different views you get from side and top. Only challenge is the aquascaping?? ![]()

I'm trying to get smaller rocks so to make it easier and give it more flexibility - well will figure it out when it comes to that part of the set-up

So you are having rock above the surface of the water over top of the overflow?

Wow, this will be very interesting to see. So you are going to totally hide the overflow.
What do you have up your sleeve here ED! lol And I assume it will be an open top if you are doing that. |

The idea is the overflow is completely hidden so all you can see is the 4 sides and the top view
![]() Well, that's the planned anyway, will have to see how that works out!! ![]()

I've not read there anywhere...got a link??
IME, red slime is clause by low flow and high nutrient as it's a bacteria and not algae so lights should not have any affect on red slime (Cyano) As for diatoms, different spectrum of lights can cause diatoms outbreak but in all new tanks, I'm expecting it anyway as part of the cycle/ tank maturing process so I'm not too concern.... But of course the above is only based on my experience and I could be totally wrong!! ![]()
