SPS help: two pices

I have a nice monti cap that my RBA has fallen in love with. I might try to blast him off, but if I leave him be, will the whole cap die?

Second - I don't know what this yellow piece is but I've had it for two years. I had a crash a few months ago and most of it does. But I let it be and now there's new growth at the base and tips. Would you frag it to remove the long dead part, or let it be?
