Scratches from magnetic glass cleaner

Hello,

I am getting scratches in my glass tank from my magnetic glass cleaner. I know to go slow when I clean down at the bottom of the tank to avoid getting sand or debris into the cleaner which I do. But I am wondering are certain brands of magnetic cleaners better than others for not creating scratches? I hate looking through scretchs in my tank so any advice would be great.

Or has anyone found ways to prevent scretching their aquariums when using magnetic cleaners?

I use a Mag-Float and have never had problems.

I don't think it's the glass cleaner that is scratching it, but rather something that is caught between the magnet and the glass. You may want to take your glass cleaner out and give it a good rinse under the water faucet. Any small external scratches can be patched over with toothpaste, for what it's worth.

All it takes is one grain of sand under the cleaner. I'm sure that lots have done it....I know I have.

my mag float works good on my acryllic tank, i have less scratches from it then when i tried to use a scraper....

pROBABLY GOT SAND BETWEEN GLASS AND CLEANER

We used to leave the magfloat in the tank all the time. After a few months, noticed a lot of tiny scratches even though we were always very careful around the sand. Took the magfloat out to rinse it off and found coralline algae had started growing on the pad! No wonder we were getting scratches! Had to soak it in vinegar solution to get the crud off. I now take it out every other day and give it a good scrubbing and let it air dry before reusing.
