No kidding.
.5ppm nitrates is the highest I've tested so far. P04 is low too.

Dennis, if I remember correctly, you've said you don't do anything special for sand maintenance, you just let the critters from TBS do all the work? Do you have any observations as to which of the animals from Richard provide the most function? It looks like maybe the tiger tails are the real work horses?

Yes, but occasionally snails and crabs need to be replenished. The cucumbers do a lot of work with the sand and the serpents are great scavengers. But I'm currently looking for a sand sifting goby to help. I have areas where the surface of the sand is unmoving and has that bright green staining algae.

Thanks man, I just bought a package from Richard for a small 20 gal I have. I'm still waiting on part two, but I really like what I see so far in part one. I'm considering adding some sand to my main tank which is BB currently, but I've always had such a hard time keeping sand clean in the past I'm reluctant. But I really like the idea of a self sufficient sand bed.

So I took my little minion reefer in training for a ride this morning... His first airport pickup!

I had two boxes waiting for me from Richard at Tampa Bay Saltwater.
One box was a "color refresh". More sponges and gorgs and stuffs.

The tall orange one in back, the red finger sponge in the middle, the orange lettuce shaped one below that and the yellow ball sponge up front.

Another red sponge...

This one is cool and I think a first for me... the formation is more flower-like.

A big purple sea fan in the back...(already had the other gorgonians you see)

This cool starfish...

And a big gorgonian and cluster of wild zoas that put in my mangrove tank.

But the big surprise and whole reason for this shipment... is in the other box.... but I can't tell yet!!!
I will be posting a separate thread for that.
If you're at all familiar with TBS rock, you'll be amazed. I know I was.
More info soon!

Dennis, how do you secure your sponges? Or do you place them in such a way they don't blow around the tank? Just got my part 2 last night, what a long night!

Hope the storm doesn't cause problems for you guys out there. Good luck.

FUN!!!! Part 2 is like freakin Christmas!

Well, for one... I find most of them do best in low light, so I put them under overhangs, at the very end of the tank, in the back... so they tend to stay where i put them pretty much. And if you look, many of them have a bit of rock or calcified substance at the base so you could glue/epoxy them to rock if you want.
The tall tree sponges I usually but in back just because of their height and will shove them behind the rock and that usually secures them in place.

Cool!
I love mine. Sucks that it doesn't float, but apparently Tunze doesn't want to pay for the rights. I think it's magfloat that carries the patent. Oh well, makes it cheaper for us.

Dennis,

Maybe you can help me out here. I just receive the tunze backup battery and having some trouble connecting it to the existing box with the other speaker wire. Did you strip the new wires and solder the ends then screw them down in the box or is there some sort of connection adapter thats available that you know of?

Love the setup BTW. Glad you have a backup source esp. from all the weather thats been going on down there.
